May 8, 2020

Dear Parents, Students and Community Members:

This has been a difficult time to make end of the year plans regarding learning and school activities. We greatly appreciate everyone’s support and patience. Over the last two months, our students have demonstrated such resilience. Although apart, they have come together in a way we have never seen. As the year comes to a close, our goal is to celebrate the Class of 2020, and all of our students, by providing them with the recognition they deserve while also adhering to state guidelines.

This letter should better inform students and families of upcoming information, dates, and end of the year procedures at CWCHS.

Grades-  All remote learning assignments will be due on Monday, May 11, 2020. There will be no Final Exams as grades will be averaged between the 3rd & 4th Quarters. Grades will be posted in TeacherEase & Report cards will be mailed to parents as soon as possible.

Fees-  All outstanding student fees (technology, lunch, library, classroom, etc.) can be paid ONLINE via each student’s TeacherEase/Common Goals account at www.teacherease.com . Fees can also be mailed or dropped off at the high school office.

Chromebook Collection

CWCHS Seniors will need to return their Chromebook, charger, and case on Tuesday, May 12. Seniors may purchase their Chromebooks by paying the remainder of their technology fee ($50.00).

CWCHS Underclassmen- Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will be allowed to keep their Chromebooks during the summer this year. That was not the initial plan for Chromebooks; however, given the circumstances, we believe it might be beneficial for students to have them throughout the summer.

Events-

CWCHS PROM-  Balancing the safety of our students and providing them with traditional high school experiences has been challenging. According to public health & safety guidelines, unfortunately we will be unable to provide Prom this year. However, once a Bulldog, ALWAYS a Bulldog. Due to these circumstances, the members of this year's Senior Class would be invited to Prom next year should they desire to attend.

CWCHS Awards Day- A Virtual Release of our Senior Awards Day Video will be shown on the CWCHS Facebook Page & YouTube Channel at 7:00 pm on May 20th. More details are provided below.

CWCHS Graduation- The challenge presented to Carmi-White County High School by the current State Health/Safety Guidelines means the 2020 Graduation Ceremony cannot be held in McDougal-Evers Gymnasium as originally scheduled. Carmi-White County Unit #5 Administration, have been working on safe options to provide recognition to our Class of 2020 students. We have been monitoring changing guidelines from the Illinois State Board of Education, and consulting with the Egyptian Health Department, local law enforcement, and the district's legal counsel. Input from our students, parents, and staff have been reviewed and considered in creating an alternative plan.

Our graduation planning process has been very thoughtful since our graduating senior Bulldogs are so important to us. Our CWCHS graduates and their families deserve the best we can provide them at this time. We are thankful for the numerous well-intentioned suggestions shared by so many students, staff, parents, and community members. Our local support and willingness to help support each other is what makes our community so great.

The uncertainty of future COVID-19 restrictions precluded us from postponing the event to a later date. Moreover, some of our graduates will be "moving on" with their lives (Military Service, jobs, schooling, etc.) and may have difficulty being recognized at a later date. The program below ensures ALL of our graduates get the recognition they have earned and deserve together. We are excited about our upcoming program, which includes many of the suggestions we received. We are optimistic that our students, parents, & community will enjoy our CWCHS Graduation 2020.

CWCHS Senior “Virtual Premiere” Week will be held the Week of May 18th with activities that acknowledge our Senior Class building up to our 2020 Virtual Graduation Ceremony.

Monday, May 18th- Video Release of our “Cap Toss” on the CWCHS Facebook Page & YouTube Channel at 7:00 pm.

Tuesday, May 19th- Video Release of our Academic & Team Awards involving Seniors & Underclassmen on the CWCHS Facebook Page & YouTube Channel at 7:00 pm.

Wednesday, May 20th- Video Release of our Senior Awards Day Video on the CWCHS Facebook Page & YouTube Channel, & on WROY/WRUL  at 7:00 pm.

Thursday, May 21st- Video Release of our Senior Slideshow Tribute on the CWCHS Facebook Page & YouTube Channel at 7:00 pm.

Friday , May 22nd-  Carmi-White County will live-stream a “Virtual” Graduation ceremony at 7:00 PM. Family & Community Members will be able to watch it on the CWCHS Facebook & YouTube Channel & on WROY/WRUL with more details about viewing to come. Much attention will go into making the virtual ceremony as true to the traditional CWCHS graduation ceremony as possible.

Prior to the viewing of the ceremony, CWCHS Seniors, along with their family, will be able to participate in a parade "together" as a class. The parade will leave from CWCHS at approximately 5:00 PM so students and families can later watch the Graduation Ceremony.

A Senior Letter will be emailed & mailed  to all Class of 2020 Students explaining more detailed information regarding the Virtual Process & individual scheduled recording times for Wednesday 5/13 & Thursday 5/14 from 3:00-8:00 PM.

We are making every effort to provide recognition to our students & keep everyone safe. We miss our students & families so much! We are proud of all of our students at Carmi-White County High School & all they have accomplished this year. We wish things were different, but we will do our very best in celebrating our underclassmen & Class of 2020!
