RE:  Second Quarter, Semester Exam, Semester Grades & Second Semester Updates

We are successfully heading towards the end of the First Semester at CWCHS and we cannot be more thankful to our students, families, staff, and community for everything that everyone has done to help us be so successful.  Everyone has worked together to ensure that our students can learn and be successful in a safe learning environment.  We are so thankful to be part of a community that does whatever it takes to help each other.

We just want to share some updates and reminders for the end of the first semester and looking ahead at the second semester.  We want to continue to work together to ensure that all of our students are successful! Please contact us with any questions!

Grading System-

Assuming class work is finished; the following formula will be used to determine the final semester grade:

  • 1st Quarter =40%  (2/5)

  • 2nd Quarter =40%  (2/5)

  • Semester Exam =20%  (1/5)

    Semester Grade =100% (5/5)

*  In order to receive credit students must complete all work, meet all classroom expectations, and pass 2 of the 3 grading periods/exam to receive credit for the semester.  Students who do not meet these requirements will receive an (F) and be required to retake the class for credit.

Semester Exams-

All students are normally required to take final exams both semesters.  However, the following guidelines will apply this semester because of the current circumstances.  (Exam Dates & Requirements will be shared later)

1-  Students will only be required to take exams if they receive an “F” in a class for either quarter.

2-  Students with split grades can voluntarily take exams (i.e. B/A) & are encouraged to take exams in an effort to earn the higher grade.  If  a student with a split grade does not choose to take the exam they will receive the lower quarter grade.

3- Failure to take a required exam in any class will result in the loss of credit for the semester in that class.

4-  Teachers maintain the option to require exams for all students in a class.

*** Semester Exams for both Remote & Face/Face students who meet the criteria above will be taken in person on Thursday, December 17th & Friday, December 18th.  Social distancing, facemasks, and symptom checks are required.

Please contact the Jr/Sr High School office with concerns or questions.  Any students unable to attend face to face for the exams because of illness or quarantine can contact the office to schedule an alternate date/time.

Graduation Requirements-

All graduation requirements remain in effect.  Students must have a minimum of 23 credits, meet all state/district  course requirements, complete the SAT and FAFSA requirements.  Failure to complete these requirements will result in a student not being able to graduate.

 Report Cards-

The Second Quarter ends on Friday, December 18th and Report Cards will be mailed home on Friday, January 8th.  We want to make sure that all of our students are successful and understand the importance of meeting all of the above requirements.  We do not want our students to fall behind and have to retake classes.

Third Quarter Learning-

We appreciate parents filling out the survey on our District Website and making a commitment on the type of instructional practice they prefer for their child for the 3rd Quarter.  The survey should be completed by Monday, December 14th.  Students may be switched to Remote Learning at any point during the third quarter for safety reasons.
