Dear Senior and Parents:

This letter is being written to inform you of all the upcoming important dates and procedures that concern you as you prepare for graduation.  Receipt of this letter, however, must not be interpreted as a statement that you will definitely graduate.  We will not know that for sure until May 14th.

Senior final exams are scheduled for Wednesday, May 12th, and Thursday, May 13th.  It is necessary for all Seniors to be in attendance on both of these days even if you are not required to take a final exam.  If you are in danger of failing any of your classes, I strongly encourage you to prepare as well as you can for your final exams.

The Carmi Ministerial Association Baccalaureate is scheduled for Sunday, May 9th, at 6:00 p.m., in the CWCHS auditorium.  Attendance at Baccalaureate is optional.  If attending, you must be present that evening by 5:30 p.m.  Boys will report to the cafeteria, and girls will report to the library.  There are two baccalaureate practices scheduled:  Monday, May 3rd and Friday, May 7th during 4th period (10:39 am – 11:24 am).  They will be held in the auditorium.  Students must attend practices if they commit to attending Baccalaureate.  Due to IDPH guidelines in the auditorium, the number of tickets for Baccalaureate will depend on the number of students participating.

Commencement is scheduled for Friday, May 21st, at 7:00 p.m.  This year, graduation will be outside on the football field.  You will need to be here at 6:30 p.m.  Boys will report to the cafeteria, and girls will report to the library.  Graduation practices are scheduled for Friday, May 14th at 8:15 am and Friday, May 21st at 8:00 am on the football field.  Again, you must attend both practices and the commencement exercises in order to receive your diploma.

Based on the number of graduates, seating in the bleachers, and the current IDPH guidelines we anticipate each Senior will receive 8 tickets for graduation.

In the event graduation is canceled due to rain, the rain-out date is scheduled for Saturday, May 22nd at 10 am. We will update everyone if current guidelines change.

Awards Day will be on Friday, May 14th at approximately 10:20 am.  Due to IDPH guidelines in the auditorium, the number of tickets for Awards Day will depend on the number of students receiving awards.

Frequently, seniors have work conflicts with the baccalaureate and graduation practices.  It is your responsibility to work out those conflicts with your employer so that you can attend all of these practices.  If this is a problem for you, I encourage you to speak with your employer immediately; do not wait until the day before.

You must wear your cap and gown for both baccalaureate and commencement.  Boys should wear dress pants, dress shirt, and long tie under their gowns.  Girls should wear a skirt and blouse or dress under their gowns.  Students should not wear blue jeans, tennis shoes, or flip-flops during the programs.  As a matter of courtesy and respect for the entire audience at graduation, we ask parents not to approach the stage to take pictures or videos

Picture Perfect Photography will take graduation pictures.  You will have a choice of picture packages ranging in price from $20.00 to $40.00. Enclosed is the order form. If you choose to have your son or daughter's picture taken while receiving their diploma, it will be necessary for you to have your child pay for the pictures during graduation practice on May 21stth.  Please note, all graduation pictures will be mailed and a $5 fee is noted on the form.  Please make sure to include this fee in your total.

Seniors must remain in school through Friday, May 14th.  You may be required to attend May 17th through the 21st if you have classroom work to finish, have makeup work to do, have unpaid fees, or are being disciplined.  Any unmet obligations (e.g., registration fees, library fees, lunch fees and/or class fees) must be attended to by no later than 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 21st, in order for you to be cleared for graduation.  If you have an outstanding balance, a copy of your statement is enclosed with this letter.

It has been a pleasure to have you at Carmi-White County High School.  I share in your happiness at this time upon receiving your diploma.  I wish you the very best through the remaining weeks of school and for the future.

Sincerely,

Jarrod Newell

Principal
