Last week the National School Lunch Program, through the US Department of Agriculture and the ISBE, announced that they have approved a waiver for all students to receive a free breakfast and a free lunch each day through the end of December. Beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2020 Carmi-White County Schools will be participating in the Summer Food Service Program allowing all enrolled students, whether face-to-face or remote, to receive these meals during school days. Please keep in mind that the waiver does not eliminate any lunch/breakfast debt that is currently owed nor does it include any a la carte, extra milk, or extra food items outside of the standard meal. #BulldogPride

WE ARE SO EXCITED TO GET BACK TO SCHOOL! We would like to invite in-person students and one parent/guardian to our Lincoln Back-to-School celebration on Tuesday, August 18th! Students should bring in their school supplies and MEET THEIR TEACHER! An administrator can also answer questions about safety precautions and/or other issues. Kindergarten Come-and-Go at your convenience during your class’ time! We ask that only ONE adult accompany each student. Ms. Whitsitt & Mrs. Winkleman’s classes come and go between 5:00pm to 6:00pm Mrs. Kuhlmann & Mrs. Courty’s classes come and go between 6:00pm to 7:00pm Mrs. Atteberry will meet with remote students and their families at another time. Keep watching for that information to be announced. 1st Grade Teachers will email parents their invitation to reserve a time that works best for you. We ask that only ONE adult accompany each student at the scheduled time. Each family will be given no more than 10 minutes with the teacher. Mrs. Pesavento will meet with remote students and their families at another time. Keep watching for that information to be announced. Please remember that in order for us to start the school year in a safe manner, we must keep the health of our students and staff at the forefront of all we do. Therefore, ALL students and adults entering the building will be symptom checked prior to entering the building, and everyone must wear a face covering. For those families who are not able to attend or do not feel comfortable, we hope to have a video out prior to the first day of student attendance.
VOLUNTEER & EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES - With the start of the school year approaching, the Carmi-White County Unit #5 School District is looking for individuals who would be interested and willing to help at each school building starting August 20th. The District is looking for individuals willing to volunteer with temperature checks on school buses and buildings as well as those interested in temporary substitute nurse aides who would be interested in working 3-5 hours daily to help with temperature checks and tracing. Anyone interested in either of these opportunities should contact building administrators as soon as possible.
Our NEW online registration opens TODAY! Please view the online registration directions prior to registering on our district website. Students can be enrolled via a registration link on our district's website, app, and Facebook pages. We encourage parents/guardians to register online, including payment. All classroom fees, lock & agenda fees, and Chromebook insurance fees have been combined to one nominal fee. For most buildings, this has resulted in a reduced registration fee for families. Since registration for the 2020-2021 school year will be solely online, staff will be available to assist with online registration and payment via cash or check, on Thursday, August 6th in each building from 9am to 7pm. While registering your student in person, masks or face coverings will be required, and social distancing guidelines will be followed. In addition to online registration, please remember to fill out the Return-to-School Survey to let us know if your child(ren) will be attending in-person, remotely, or have chosen another option if you have not done so already. As soon as these surveys have been completed, we will be able to assign classroom teachers & schedules.

Guidelines for Board Meeting 7-20-20 THIS IS A REMINDER: The Carmi-White County CUSD #5 Board of Education will meet Monday, July 20, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at the Junior/Senior High School cafeteria. At this meeting, the Board and other attendees will practice social distancing. When entering the room, please maintain a 6-foot distance between other members of the public. Guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) states that everyone entering a school building must wear a face covering at all times, even when social distancing is maintained. Therefore, all attendees at School Board Meetings will be required to wear a mask. Attendees at tonight’s meeting will also be asked to self-certify, by signing a form, stating they that they do not have any of the following symptoms: temperature above 100.4 degrees cough shortness of breath or difficulty breathing chills fatigue muscle and body aches headache sore throat new loss of taste or smell congestion runny nose nausea vomiting diarrhea We ask that anyone who exhibits these symptoms not attend tonight’s meeting. ALSO, Attendees at tonight’s meeting will be required to wear a mask or will not be allowed to enter the building, as per guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education.

NEW! OPENS TODAY! ONLINE KINDERGARTEN PRE-REGISTRATION Lincoln Attendance Center will conduct online pre-registration for students who will be attending Kindergarten in the 2020 – 2021 school year. Children who are five years of age on or before September 1, 2020 are eligible to start school in August. The pre-registration portal will be open TODAY and will close Friday, May 29th. Please go to the CWC district website and click on the link to begin the pre-registration process. If you have any questions with this process, please contact Lincoln School at 384-3421 from 8am to 11am. Information obtained at this early registration provides us with a tentative number of kindergarten students. The data helps us purchase supplies, finalize staffing plans, and prepare bus routes for next year. Because of the current shelter-in-place order, we will not be able to conduct speech screening or the readiness assessment with each potential kindergartner in person, so we are hopeful that each parent will conduct the screening at home with their student and input the results. This is the beginning of the registration process. District-wide registration will be August 6th from 9:00am to 7:00pm in order to finalize registration, update records, and find out who your child’s teacher will be for the school year. It’s time to turn in the required completed work for the school year. We will collect items via a drive-through system on Monday, May 11th from 8-11 a.m. Please return required work, library books, textbooks, and any Relay for Life bags that you decorated. We will also be collecting any unpaid fees/lunch bills. Report cards will be mailed home on Monday, May 18th. A final fun summer learning packet will be sent home. This is optional and nothing needs returned, but it will definitely give your child a jumpstart for next year. Most of all, we want to thank you for your help and support the past several weeks! We know it’s been stressful. We are devastated that we didn’t get one final chance to love on them and say our goodbyes, but we appreciate your help through this difficult situation. If your child turns 3 before Aug 17, 2020, please call Washington Attendance Center's school office at 382-4631. Office hours are 8-11 am M-F. Once we get your information, a packet with screening information will be mailed to you.

Carmi-White County Unit #5 Update (4/27) Though this is not how we hoped the school year would end, we are very proud of the collaboration between our students, parents, teachers, and staff during this remote learning time. Our community has pulled together to protect, feed, and educate our students. We appreciate everyone’s efforts and understanding. It is obvious that we live in a great community that is supportive of our students. Moving forward, all required assignments will need to be submitted electronically or turned in at the respective buildings by Monday, May 11th. Grades will be posted in TeacherEase for grades 2-12 by Friday, May 15th, and report cards will be mailed on Monday, May 18th. Please pick up learning packets from Lincoln and Jefferson on Monday, April 13 between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Required assignments will need returned on Monday April 27th. Please call the school office as you drive or walk up and we will bring them to your car. If you have a car sign with your student’s name, please use it to assist us in delivery. We have partnered with Hucks to provide a treat for our students so don’t miss out!

Due to the directive of Governor Pritzker and the closing of all Illinois schools from Tuesday, March 17th through Monday, March 30th, Carmi-White County CUSD #5 will provide the following learning opportunities: * Pre-K through 3rd grade, learning packets will be sent home. * 4th through 12th grade students will have Chromebooks sent home. Online learning opportunities will be provided by individual teachers via Google Classrooms. Students whose families do not have internet access should notify their respective school. *Brownsville School students will also have materials sent home. Students who are not in attendance on Monday will have an opportunity to pick up materials on Tuesday, March 17th from 8am to 1pm. School office hours will be from 8am to 1pm from March 17th to March 20th. Please contact the office for any assistance needed. This situation is ever-changing, and updated information will be pushed out through the district website and C-WC app. Please download the app for the most up-to-date information. As previously stated, all extracurricular and co-curricular activities will be cancelled from Tuesday, March 17th through Monday, March 30th. We appreciate your understanding and support. We have just received word that Governor Pritzker has issued a directive that all public and private schools in Illinois will be close from Tuesday, March 17 through Monday, March 30, along with all extra-curricular and co-curricular activities/practices. School is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, March 31 unless we are told differently.
CUSD #5 will be postponing school dismissal for today 3/12/20 due to severe weather warnings. Students will be dismissed as soon as weather permits.
We are not dismissing until the storm passes. Buses will be running behind schedule. After school tutoring today has been canceled.
Due to a scheduling conflict, we had to change the date for Lincoln's Spring Pictures. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but Spring Pictures at Lincoln will be on Tuesday, April 21st. New picture forms will be sent home soon!
Lincoln school dismisses at 11:50 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, February 14th) for a teacher inservice. Happy Valentine’s Day! No school on Monday (February 17th) in observance of Presidents’ Day.
Skate Night for Lincoln and Jefferson (February 13th) will be rescheduled due to a small fire at the facility. We will let you know the new date as soon as they reopen.
