Trauma-Informed Strategies Focusing on Relationship Building

Trauma impacts our systems and brains in negative ways, but we know that resiliency factors can counteract the impact. The biggest resiliency factor is meaningful relationships. This training will focus on ways to build relationships within the home and school settings in order to build resilience in our community’s children. Strategies will include one-on-one and group interactions.   Presenter: Dr. Kathryn Bangs

Dr. Kathryn Bangs, NCSP, is a licensed psychologist and the clinical services supervisor at the Egyptian Health Department. In her role, she supervises the clinical staff and provides mental health services to children, adolescents, and families. Dr. Bangs is originally from Rhode Island and received her Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of Georgia, her M.A. in Psychology in 2013, and her B.A. in Psychology and Dance in 2011. She completed her internship with the Illinois School Psychology Internship Consortium (ISPIC), specifically the Egyptian Health Department and Wabash Ohio Valley Special Education District (WOVSED) site. Dr. Bangs focuses her work on trauma-informed care and services during this time. She became an Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist, a Child Adult Relationship Enhancement (CARE) trainer, locally certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and a certified therapist in Managing Adaptive Practices (MAP). She is also working towards being a certified MAP trainer/supervisor, a Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) therapist, and a Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) certification. Dr. Bangs has worked in a variety of settings, such as community mental health, schools, and primary care settings and has specialized practice within literacy, poverty, and autism.

Everyone is invited to attend! Professional Development Hours (CPDU’s) will be offered. Light refreshments and childcare will be provided.
