Dear 8th grade parents:
This letter is being written to inform you of all the upcoming important dates and procedures that concern you as you prepare for completion of the 8th grade. Receipt of this letter, however, must not be interpreted as a statement that you will definitely pass the academic requirements. We will not know that for sure until May 14th.
The 8th grade Completion and Awards Ceremony is scheduled for May 20th @ 9:00 a.m. on the football field. You will need to be here in attendance at normal time on that day.
Based on the number of 8th graders, available seating in the bleachers, and the current IDPH guidelines we anticipate each 8th grade student will receive up to 5 tickets for the ceremony . We will update everyone if the current guidelines change. (A link has been shared for 8th grade parents to reserve their tickets)
All spectators are required to wear masks and encouraged to practice social distancing.
Parents and spectators are asked to enter at the north gate behind the football stadium. You will present your ticket upon entering the gate.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved inside to McDougal-Evers Gymnasium and each student will only be permitted 2 guests.
Appropriate Attire for the ceremony would be Business Casual. Boys should wear dress pants and a collared shirt. Girls should wear a skirt, blouse, dress or dress pants
Pictures – As a matter of courtesy and respect for the entire audience at the ceremony, we ask parents not to approach the stage to take pictures or videos. Parents will be allowed to take pictures of/with their 8th grade students at the conclusion of the ceremony.
8th grade students will be free to leave immediately following the ceremony.
8th grade trip to Holiday World
The Holiday World trip for 8th graders is an optional trip. This is NOT an attendance day for 8th grade and therefore students are not required to participate. If students do not attend the trip, they are not required to be at school. The trip will be on Friday May 21st. Students need to arrive at 7:15 a.m. in the back parking lot. We will be returning to CWCJHS by 4:30 p.m. that evening. We ask that you be waiting to pick up your child at the back of the building. Tickets should have already been reserved and purchased.
It has been a pleasure to have your student at Carmi-White County Jr. High School. I wish them the very best through the remaining 4 years of high school and for whatever their future holds.
