
With the start of the school year approaching, the Carmi-White County Unit #5 School District is looking for individuals who would be interested and willing to help at each school building starting August 20th. The District is looking for individuals willing to volunteer with temperature checks on school buses and buildings as well as those interested in temporary substitute nurse aides who would be interested in working 3-5 hours daily to help with temperature checks and tracing. Anyone interested in either of these opportunities should contact building administrators as soon as possible.

Our NEW online registration opens TODAY! Please view the online registration directions prior to registering on our district website.
Students can be enrolled via a registration link on our district's website, app, and Facebook pages. We encourage parents/guardians to register online, including payment. All classroom fees, lock & agenda fees, and Chromebook insurance fees have been combined to one nominal fee. For most buildings, this has resulted in a reduced registration fee for families.
Since registration for the 2020-2021 school year will be solely online, staff will be available to assist with online registration and payment via cash or check, on Thursday, August 6th in each building from 9am to 7pm. While registering your student in person, masks or face coverings will be required, and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
In addition to online registration, please remember to fill out the Return-to-School Survey to let us know if your child(ren) will be attending in-person, remotely, or have chosen another option if you have not done so already. As soon as these surveys have been completed, we will be able to assign classroom teachers & schedules.

Guidelines for Board Meeting 7-20-20
THIS IS A REMINDER:
The Carmi-White County CUSD #5 Board of Education will meet Monday, July 20, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at the Junior/Senior High School cafeteria. At this meeting, the Board and other attendees will practice social distancing. When entering the room, please maintain a 6-foot distance between other members of the public.
Guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) states that everyone entering a school building must wear a face covering at all times, even when social distancing is maintained. Therefore, all attendees at School Board Meetings will be required to wear a mask.
Attendees at tonight’s meeting will also be asked to self-certify, by signing a form, stating they that they do not have any of the following symptoms:
temperature above 100.4 degrees
cough
shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
chills
fatigue
muscle and body aches
headache
sore throat
new loss of taste or smell
congestion
runny nose
nausea
vomiting
diarrhea
We ask that anyone who exhibits these symptoms not attend tonight’s meeting.
ALSO, Attendees at tonight’s meeting will be required to wear a mask or will not be allowed to enter the building, as per guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education.

Tryouts for the Jr. High baseball team (if the state allows) will be held on August 3rd and 4th from 8-10 am at Bradshaw Park. Anyone interested must have a current physical and insurance card on file before try outs.

Transition Planning Phase Update (6/24/20)


We would like to thank all of the girls who tried out for the 2020-21 JH Cheerleading squad. The names of those students who made the team have been posted on the Southeast Gym Doors at Washington Attendance Center.

We still have unclaimed student items from HS/JH student & physical education lockers, as well as items in the lost and found. Please contact us if you are missing items. We are preparing the building for the fall & any leftover items will be donated after June 17th.

CWCJHS 8th GRADE -Friday, May 15, 2020 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm - 8th grade parents/students can return Chromebooks, receive all personal belongings, receive awards, and receive 8th grade completion gift from CWCJHS. Parents/students should report to the main back entrance.

CWCJHS 7th GRADE -Thursday, May 14, 2020 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm will be the designated time for 7th grade parents/students to return Chromebooks, receive all personal belongings, and receive awards. Parents/students should report to the main back entrance.

Bulldog Cheerleaders
Any current 8th grade or high school student that is interested in the 2020-21 CWCHS football and/or basketball cheer teams needs to email Mrs. Black at tblack@carmischools.org for an application and information. Cutoff for applications will be May 15th.

Interested in PreK for the 2020-2021 School Year?
PreK Screenings will look differently this spring. If your child turns 3 before Aug 17, 2020, please call Washington Attendance Center's school office at 382-4631. Office hours are 8-11 am M-F. Once we get your information, a packet with screening information will be mailed to you.

Carmi-White County Unit #5 Update (4/27)
Though this is not how we hoped the school year would end, we are very proud of the collaboration between our students, parents, teachers, and staff during this remote learning time. Our community has pulled together to protect, feed, and educate our students. We appreciate everyone’s efforts and understanding. It is obvious that we live in a great community that is supportive of our students.
Moving forward, all required assignments will need to be submitted electronically or turned in at the respective buildings by Monday, May 11th. Grades will be posted in TeacherEase for grades 2-12 by Friday, May 15th, and report cards will be mailed on Monday, May 18th.
