Dear CWCJHS Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to provide an important clarification regarding our Cell Phone Policy for the 2026-2027 school year.
We will continue our existing cell phone policy, which has been in place for the past five years. Students in grades 7 and 8 are expected to keep their cell phones powered off or silenced and stored in their assigned lockers throughout the school day. This practice will remain consistent for the upcoming year.
Important Addition: Effective immediately, smartwatches will now follow the same guideline and must be stored in student lockers during the school day.
Please know that if a student needs to contact home during school hours, a phone is always available in the main office for their use.
For your reference, our complete cell phone policy is outlined below:
Students may not have cell phones and/or mobile devices on or in their possession during school hours, including their lunch period. Cell phones may be kept in lockers for purposes of after school use and extra-curricular activities.
The use of electronic devices and other technology at school is a privilege, not a right. Students are prohibited from using electronic devices, except as provided herein. An electronic device includes, but is not limited to, the following: cell phone, smart phone, audio or video recording device, personal digital assistant (PDA), iPod, iPad, laptop computer, tablet computer, or other similar electronic device. Pocket pagers and other paging devices are not allowed on school property at any time, except with the express permission of the building principal.
During instructional time, which includes class periods and passing periods, electronic devices must be kept powered-off and in the student's locker unless: (a) permission is granted by an administrator, teacher, or school staff member; (b) use of the device is provided in a student's individualized education program (IEP); or (c) it is needed in an emergency that threatens the safety of students, staff, or other individuals.
Students are allowed to use electronic devices during non-instructional time, which is defined as before and after school.

Dear Families,
Starting a new school year—especially in junior high—can bring a mix of excitement and nervous butterflies. To help make the first day extra special and supportive for our students, we’d love to invite you to participate in a quick, meaningful surprise!
Before the school year kicks off, we are inviting parents and guardians to stop by the school to leave a comforting note inside your student’s locker. Imagine their smile when they open their locker on Day 1 to find a warm message from home reminding them that they've got this!
Details:
When: Tuesday, August 4, from 3:30 - 4:30 or Thursday , August 6th from 3:00-4:00
Where: Park in the Parking lot and use the Main Back Entrance and make your way to the Junior High Hallways
What to Bring: Just your words of encouragement! We will also have index cards, sticky notes, and pens available if you need them.
Note: If you are unable to drop by in person, feel free to write a note at home, put it in a sealed envelope with your child's full name, and drop it off at the office

Dear Students and Parents,
On behalf of the Faculty and Staff of Carmi-White County Junior High School, I would like to welcome you to the 2026-2027 school year. We are looking forward to another great year here at CWCJHS. Our wonderful staff takes great pride in educating the children of this community, and we look forward to passing on the traditions that this community values to our young people. We have spent the summer preparing for this school year, and we cannot wait to begin!
The first day of student attendance will be Wednesday, August 12th, and they will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. for the first week of school. We hope that you will be able to attend our “Back to School Night” on Friday, August 14th. This event will run from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Please be advised of an update to our district’s technology policy. Moving forward, Chromebooks will no longer be permanently assigned to individual students for daily take-home use. Instead, devices will be provided in classrooms to support daily academic instruction and collaborative projects.
We understand that there may be circumstances when students require a device outside of school hours. To accommodate these situations, we have established a process for checking out a Chromebook:
Requesting a Device: If a need arises for a student to use a Chromebook outside of school hours, a request may be submitted to school administration.
Case-by-Case Approval: Requests will be reviewed by staff and administration on an as-needed basis.
Student/Guardian Responsibility: Please be aware that when a student checks out a device, they and their parent/guardian assume full responsibility for the care, safety, and timely return of the Chromebook and all its accessories. All existing Acceptable Use Policy guidelines will remain in effect regardless of where the device is being used.1
This change is designed to optimize our resources while ensuring that every student has access to the technology they need during the school day to master essential skills and prepare for future academic and career paths.1

Just a reminder that physicals are required for our student-athlete entering 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades for the 2026-27 School Year. Several of our medical clinics in town will be providing free sports physicals this summer! Hamilton Memorial is by appointment, Horizon Healthcare is by Appointment, and Ferrell Clinic will be offering physicals on June 15th and June 23rd. ALL students entering 6th and 9th grades must have an IDPH school physical. No sports physical is required for 6th and 9th grade student-athletes. Please see the attached flyers for more information!
